More than 30 years of building and we're still at it.
As a design-build firm, we've envisioned and completed over 400 construction projects on
the East End.

Reich/Eklund Construction Inc. conceives, designs, and develops building projects builds of any scale. From new construction to a 2-story or basement addition to total design re-conceptualizations: we focus on our home, Shelter Island, and the neighboring Hamptons & North Fork of Long Island. The Team

James Eklund - President
& Co-Owner of Reich/Eklund Co.

Since 1973, James has been invested in life on Shelter Island. At that time, he and wife, Linda, started more than a few businesses while raising their family - James was also doing construction during the fall, winter and spring months. But when his longtime friend, Peter Reich, moved to Shelter Island full time, they teamed up and Reich/Eklund Construction Inc was born. Since the beginning, James has been responsible for managing overall project development, however big or small the project - after all "work is work".

James also has served as the chairman of the Shelter Island Heights Property Owners corp., VP of the North Ferry Corp., VP of the SI 10K Run, president of the SI Ecumenical Youth Group, founding member and president of the Island Gift of Life Foundation, the Town Of Shelter Island Waterways Advisory Committee, and more.

Peter Reich - Vice President
& Co-Owner of Reich/Eklund Co.

Peter is Reich/Eklund Co.'s guy who keeps things moving smoothly from the inside out. His skills, while vast, are more narrowly focused on the interior workings of a build: the mechanics, the heating, the plumbing, the electric. Peter ensures that all structures, seen and unseen, are as fine-tuned and impressive as the exteriors they inhabit.

Peter is unabashedly passionate about his love of Shelter Island. In 2003 Peter became Councilman on the Shelter Island Town Board - meaning he knows all about difficult permit processes - previously serving on the Waterways Management Advisory Council, the Conservation Advisory Council, the Water Advisory Council, the Board of Mashomack Nature Preserve, the Shelter Island Chamber of Commerce, the Shelter Island Yacht Club, and the East End Seaport Marine Foundation Board.

Jim Rich - Partner at Reich/Eklund Co.

Jim commands a solid 38 years of experience in the building and construction industry. A partner at Reich/Eklund since December of 2006, he is responsible for estimating, bid coordination, project managing, and support to Peter or James when they are leads on the projects. Jim is the first, second, & third lead depending on the needs of the build.

Outside of his vast knowledge of the construction world, Jim, like both Peter and James, is highly involved with life on Shelter Island. He is assistant chief of the Southold Fire Department, a member of Shelter Island Yacht Club, the Seagyan Club, and Off Soundings Club. He is committed to improving life on Shelter Island and the greater East End.
